Principal

A well-designed building is one that not only meets the functional needs of its occupants but also touches their heart and uplifts their spirits. – Moshe Safdie

For over 35 years, Neal has led some of the firm’s most complex projects. He is recognized for combining design sensitivity with skills in technical coordination throughout the design and construction process. He has focused on creating learning environments with a comprehensive approach to Holistic Sustainability, encompassing Environmental Sustainability, Occupant Health & Wellness, and Diversity & Inclusion. Neal’s work strives to harmonize this triad by integrating project programs and physical designs to minimize negative impacts on the built environment. Through path-breaking research alongside leading social scientists, he has gathered transformational data providing empirical evidence for what was previously known only anecdotally – particularly regarding physical activity and social interactions. His philosophy emphasizes the need to incorporate diversity and inclusion into both our professional practice and the projects we undertake, striving to create a fair and just society. Additionally, architectural lighting design is a particular interest and specialty, for which Neal has won numerous awards.

His large-scale academic projects include MIT Sloan School of Management, Asia School of Business with MIT Sloan in Kuala Lumpur, Glorya Kaufman Hall/Center for World Arts and Cultures at UCLA, and Washington University in St. Louis’s Olin Business School, Brown School of Social Work, and Jubel Hall.
